(01)The problem
A small regional brand with a strong story (Kalaburagi origin, GI-tagged toor dal, unpolished pulses, cold-pressed oils) needed a site that feels honest and premium, collects buyers before launch, and hands over cleanly to a Shopify store on launch day.
(02)Approach · key decisions
01
Collect buyers before launch
The first screen asks for one thing: a WhatsApp number for a single launch message, sent through a serverless function. No forwards, no marketing.
02
A focused first range
Nine products, each with its own page and price, so the brand reads as a point of view rather than a catalogue.
03
Story before shelf
Our Story, a journal and a ‘This is Black Soil’ section put the origin and the ‘unpolished’ promise ahead of price.
04
One design system
A design-system page with one shared button and motion, so every page and the sister brand sites stay consistent.
(03)What's inside
The build.
- WhatsApp launch-alert signup and a countdown that never shows a negative number
- Nine product pages: dals and pulses, and cold-pressed safflower, groundnut and sesame oils
- Our Story page, journal (blog), contact page with a working enquiry form, drawn map footer
- Shopify store on the Horizon theme with custom sections, in pre-launch
- The codebase became the template for the Eleven* brand sites

What I learned
For food brands, trust details (pack size, licence, policies) convert as much as the photography does.
